KPPSC Junior Scale Stenographer (BPS-14): typing 35 WPM and shorthand 50 WPM
Stenographer posts test two separate skills. For the Junior Scale Stenographer (BPS-14) post advertised by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission, the public listing asks for a typing speed of 35 words per minute and a shorthand speed of 50 words per minute.
Two skills, one job
Shorthand is taking dictation quickly in symbols; typing is turning that dictation, or a printed draft, into a clean document. A stenographer is only as good as the weaker of the two, so the test checks both.TypingNonStop practises the typing half only. Shorthand is not covered.
The typing target
35 WPM means 175 characters a minute. Because a stenographer types formal letters and notes, accuracy matters as much as speed: a misspelled name or a missing comma in an office note is a visible error. Aim for 40 WPM in practice with at least 97 percent accuracy.
How to practise typing for this post
- Use formal office English: letters, office notes, minutes and orders.
- Practise names, designations and dates until you can type them without thinking.
- Train in full-length timed runs so that stamina does not drop in the last minutes.
- Drill every word you misspell until it leaves your mistake list.
Combine both skills in your week
Split your daily time: shorthand dictation first while you are fresh, then a timed typing session. On test days, type the transcription slowly enough to be exact: a clean transcript beats a fast messy one.
TypingNonStop has exam passages with the pass marks of real government and office jobs, net WPM, weak-word drills, lessons and games.
